		<description>This is interesting to hear that the eastern part of the country is also experiencing a decline in the acorn crops.  I live in California, and our Native American community is very aware of the general decline in acorns for many years, now.  We still gather them for food use, although now it is primarily for ceremonial use, rather than everyday use, as in historic times.

It used to be that we would have a &quot;bad year&quot; perhaps every 5 years or so, and now, it seems we may only have a &quot;good year&quot; perhaps once in five years.  Last year was the first in many years that there was a substantial crop, and this year, there was nothing.  It does seem as if the wildlife that also depend on the acorns are declining as well.</description>
