The home features a variety of environmentally and sustainable features including:

  • Platinum LEED Certification

  • Recycled carpets

Composting Bin
Green Kitchen

Also included is a 2009 GMC Sierra Hybrid that has a V8 engine and gets 21 city/22 hwy.  This is probably the part of the contest that I am not really thrilled about.  Just to bring this massive vehicle up to par with the already inefficient cars we have on the road, they had to make it a hybrid.  Regardless, you still would win this car if you were to win the contest.

In total, the prize package totals about $750,000.  This home is really a great example of how homes should be built in America.  Make sure to enter the contest by going to HGTV Green Home Giveaway page so you don’t miss you chance to win this beautiful and environmentally friendly home.  The contest ends on June 5th, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. eastern time.

  6. I enjoy watching the HGTV shows and am I am in awe with what can be done these days to save our precious energy and resources. I find that things are not a lot different in the mind set as they were years ago when everyone was struggling with the economy. Not only did we then, as we are now, being very concious of how we spend our dollars. Saving our nation by saving our planet works in more than one way, it works with economics as well as saving our resources. As we save on the energy that we utilize we are also saving on our dollars that we spend. It all becomes a win-win situation.
It apears that it costs us more to spend our money on recycled products which is a shame. The companies that manufacture these items increase their costs for the production and sale of the items. In reference to what I am speaking of are the increase in cost of our new energy efficient appliances or the new Bamboo flooring and blinds that have come out that are so beautiful.
But when you look at it in the perspective that we are saving money in the long run by our utility bills then we should go ahead and spend the money on the new appliances.
What I do not understand is why the industry that made this mess in the beginning is upping the prices on the appliances and energy efficient articles and yet making them out of reach for so many of us?
I WOULD LOVE TO WIN THE GREEN HOME SO I COULD FEEL THAT I AM DOING MY PART WITH SAVING MOTHER EARTH. I HOPE I WIN BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT I WILL BE ABLE AFFORD TO DO MY PART AND TO DO “MY PART” COMPLETELY.

I would love to win this home, I have never won anything, or money. I have worked two jobs for over 25 years, single and self supportive I would love to get away from all of this, working all day and night, especially all the terrible cold, long winters. Every year I say I’m gonna move south it would be so great to finally do so, to a wonderful green friendly home. I am 48 years old bought my first home/condo 3 years ago and have had nothing but trouble since then, too many rules and regulation I have been so very disappointed to finally get a home and you can’t even plant a garden, have a dog, grill outside, etc…. I would love to get away from here, the house is so beautiful I could never aford to own one like that all I can do is dream.

  7. as you know times are tough, we have no work where we live in central fl. we have been thinking of moveing in with my mother down south because there is work, and given the chance to live green would be great!!!! Not to mention a beautiful home wow what a way to start over!!! my children and I thank you so much for this chance to see if dreams could come true, if not for us, but a deserving family! thank you again, everyone in our prayers!!!!

  8. I want to see a “Green Home” for the disabled. I as well as my husband are both disabled and we are in need of creative ways that will make our home disable friendly along with making it GREEN. Being Green takes on a whole new, or should I say old, lifestyle. At one point the world lived Green because we did not have the resources to make our “homes” Earth unfriendly. Now with modern technology we have made life simpler yet more Earth unfriendly.
How can we go back to simplicity, make our homes Green and yet have the comforts that we all have become accustomed to? Being disabled has brought on a whole new meaning to “lifestyle”. We have had to learn to live life in a whole new light, no pun intended! What can we the disabled do that can contribute to making our lives Green and yet continue to live with modern conveniences? We need our electronic extra’s yet we have had to cut back on many things because of our change in lifestyle. We have had to learn all over again the true meaning of “how many people does it take to screw in a light bulb”? This is just one example, I wish there were classes for the disabled to teach us to be more Earth friendly when there are many things that require us to have to utilize energy that other may not have to even think about.
Hey HGTV, any ideas on what we disabled can do for ourselves that may make life more Green yet not cost us the many things that we have or already had to give up?
You can say one thing about us, we never give up. We are always looking for things that others take for granted.
By the way, Green IS my favorite color.
