Wind Turbines Noise Not Dangerous

December 30, 2009 · Filed Under Green

One of the biggest complaints against using wind turbines as a source of alternative energy is the fact that they could possibly be detrimental to our health.  What has been termed as wind turbine syndrome, it believed by many that wind turbines could affect our hearing.  The American Wind Energy Association released a report earlier this month that there is no evidence to show that wind turbines have a negative effect on our health.

There is no evidence that the sounds, nor the sub-audible vibrations, emitted by wind turbines have any direct physiological effects on humans.

The above quote by Dr. Robert McCunney, one of the co-authors of the study really goes against the who theory of the wind turbine syndrome.  It is believed that the noise generated from wind turbines is equivalent to what you would normally experience in an average city.

There are always going to be some that may be annoyed by the noises generated from wind turbines or even have some symptoms they may feel are connected to wind turbines running.  This does not mean that we should not continue to build on this great source of energy that has unlimited potential in our future energy portfolio.  It’s great that this study was done by real doctors and scientists to combat those who are fighting hard against the growth of wind energy and its introduction in our local communities.
