Came across a good app also that automates shutdown and shows every PC user what they are actually saving. Also offers a programmable Green Button that the user just presses as they leave their desk.e.g. F12 This Hibernates the PC or puts it to Sleep and logs off the user within 10 seconds. So by the time you've left your desk the PC is locked and sleeping. This gives about 20% extra savings during peak daytime utility rates. Every little helps (check it out at wwww.energywatchit.com. I usually just set my computer to go into stand-by mode if I have been inactive for ten minutes. I think that saves a lot of CO2 as well. Though now, thanks to you , I always try to shut it down if I am not going to use it for a while. Great post. But then when I moved it went back on.
