Swap for Good

This week, several Swap for Good events will be taking place around the United States. Swap for Good is similar to Freecycling in that you are able to get rid of gently used items that you no longer need and to pick up items from other people that you do. As an added bonus, your participation benefits your local domestic violence shelter. As the New York Times reports, Swap for Good is a great way to “use the environmental principle of recycling to raise money for another passionate cause.”
All you need to do is find your local Swap for Good event or host one of your own, bring items you no longer need as well as a monetary donation (that will be collected at the door), and get ready to sift through items brought by other people in search of things that you do need!

I hope more initiatives like this kick off all over the world. Like they say, one person’s junk is another person’s gold. There’s so much environmental pollution we could avoid simply by not throwing away everything we don’t need because there’s always someone willing to use it.
Till then,
Jean
This is a great way to raise awareness about environmental issues and do your part to reuse items. Anything leftover can always just be brought to your local Salvation Army. Just make sure those usable items don’t end up in the trash.
Thanks for information! I think more initiatives like this kick off!
It also hurts me when food is wasted in good hotels. I worked in a 5-star kitchen once and it depressed me to see the amount of good quality food being thrown in the dumpster daily.
I asked one chef why it’s not donated to the needy instead of wasting, and he said it’s to avoid lawsuits in case someone falls sick among them and blames the food as the cause. I guess there is a point but it’s still such a shame to be wasting so much.
Till then,
Jean
Plus it is well within the limits set in its debt covenant (please see the balance sheet).
This is definitely something that I will have to get into. I have a bunch of items that I need to remove from my home.
