Is there such thing as health calories? Coz' that is really the point there. It's not calories per serving but on how healthy the consumption is.

I wonder what major most of those college students were that were a part of the experiment, seems so odd that most of them would fall into those traps. I can't believe overall as a society that people can't properly read labels, and instead fall into the traps of advertisements in the front :(

Till then,

I think this problem is more about people's assumptions than anything to do with labels. Since people assume organic means healthier, they may not take the time to actually compare products. The root of the problem is lack of proper nutritional education.

Excellent reflections, I think we can all take both a little bit of responsibility in our consumer education as well as caution when reading marketing claims.

Since 'organic' has been associated with 'healthy', people often confuse it's actual nutritional value. It is healthier in the sense that you are ingesting fewer pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers and in most cases better for the environment.

A great advocate on this topic that speaks well to Ville's points about industrial ingredients and processing is Michael Pollen and his books In Defense of Food and the Omnivore's Dilemma.

Great article Patrick!

I meant to say I can sit down to an industrial steak and get indigestion.
I also meant to say that I can't pronounce all of the ingredients on the industrial Oreos.

Toxins are either fat or water soluble. Water soluble toxins do leave the body easily. Fat soluble get stored in the fat cells until the fat is released.

It is also said that low levels of toxic substances in the body can slow the metabolism.

My metabolism in the past was tested as slow. I refused to take synthroid, etc. In the past when I ate food that our family grew my metabolism was very fast.

Narrow thinking is one of the reasons this country is as sick as it is.
