Keeping your own chickens is by far the best way of obtaining organic eggs. Organic and free range eggs sold in superstores may not come from chickens kept as well as we would like to think they are.
If you are able to take care of your own chickens, and have the ability to do it where you live, than it is a fantastic thing to have. But personally I would also say that you should be a very responsible person if you are going to grow your own chicken, as it is a very risky thing if you don’t take good care of your chicken.

It sounds like a great idea to raise your own chickens, but I am one of those people who can’t be bothered to do all that work. I’m environmentally friendly until it inconveniences me 🙂
as much as i’d love to raise my own chickens, there’s no way it’s gonna happen. besides the fact that i don’t think landlords allow chicken in apartment buildings, i also don’t think i eat enough eggs to make the initial capital costs worth it. for those of you raising chicks, good luck!
My friend has chickens and really enjoys the fresh eggs they produce as well as the overall experience of having them. One thing that he does is that he collects the eggs that he doesn’t use and sells them at a little organic market where locals come together on the weekends. He also trades eggs for other items such as local honey and fresh veggies. Not only does he get to know more people in the community, but he also gets some pretty great and fresh items grown locally.
